Abstract
Background: Adolescence is a transition period between childhood and adulthood. It begins at the time of sexual maturity in the ages of 11 or 12 years up to 20 years, i.e. before the young adulthood (Soetjiningsih, 2007). Teenagers (or teens) are sexually active and they often lack of basic information on reproductive health, sexual intercourse negotiation skill and lack of access to reproductive health services. This may lead them to be vulnerable to reproductive health diseases, such as HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) (Widyastuti, 2009). Therefore, the writer is interested in applying leaflet in health education on HIV/AIDS for teenagers. Objective: Providing health education for teenagers (adolescents) using leaflet media in increasing their knowledge about HIV / AIDS at Kajoran, Karanggayam, Kebumen. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive. This was done by describing the facts obtained from interviews and direct observations. This study was conducted from 27 Febuary to 06 May, 2017. To measure the level of knowledge using the pretest and postest questionnaire sheets. Result: The application leaflet media in health education to increase teenager knowledge on HIV/AIDS is very effective and useful. The scores on each participant show that they experienced improvement. Conclusion: After having health education using leaflet media, score the teenager knowledge on HIV/AIDS is increasing.
