Abstract
Background: The biggest problem in Indonesia is smoking. It not only affects adults but also adolescents today. In the 2021 Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) data, it is known that around 70.2 million adults (34.5%) consume tobacco. Adolescents smoke because parents do not supervise their children's contact with other adolescents and do not know anything about them, which makes these adolescents want to smoke. Objective: To determine the effect of smoking hazard education on the level of the knowledge and attitudes in male adolescent students at State Junior High School 3 of Karanganyar. Methods: This research design uses a Quasi Experiment with a One Group Pre Test and Post Test Design approach with sample collection techniques using random sampling techniques. The total sample was 52 students. The instruments used in this research were questionnaires and videos. Results: The results of the study before the education, the level of knowledge was lacking by 44.8% and negative attitudes by 84.6%. The results showed a difference in the effect of the level of knowledge and attitudes of male adolescent students before and after the education on the smoking hazard with a significance of p value= 0.00. Conclusion: There is an effect of education on the smoking hazard on the level of knowledge and attitudes of male adolescent students at State Junior High School 3 of Karanganyar. Recommendation: For further research, it is hoped to can conduct further research on factors that can influence smoking behavior in adolescents.
