Abstract
Background: Bronchopneumonia is a disease caused by inflammation due to bacteria, viruses, or fungi that leads to infection or inflammation in the respiratory tract and lung tissues. Treatment for bronchopneumonia may include non-pharmacological therapy such as eucalyptus oil steam inhalation. Objective: Understanding the effect of eucalyptus oil steam therapy on oxygenation status in children with bronchopneumonia at RSUD Margono Soekarjo. Method: This study involves the application of eucalyptus oil steam therapy for children with bronchopneumonia, with a sample of 5 respondents. It uses variables such as respiratory rate, effective cough, additional breath sounds, and SaO2. The instruments include a nursing care case format, SOP for eucalyptus oil steam therapy, observation sheets, an oximeter, and a stopwatch. The study is conducted from May to June 2024 at RSUD Margono Soekarjo. Results: The results of applying eucalyptus oil steam therapy to the five patients showed that all respondents initially had ineffective airway clearance issues. After administering both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, including eucalyptus oil steam therapy for 10-15 minutes, observations were made before and after the therapy. After taking action for 3x24 hours, the results showed that the five respondents experienced a decrease in respiratory frequency, where the RR results of the five clients were less than 34x/minute, rhonchi breath sounds, and an increase in Sa O2. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that eucalyptus oil steam therapy can be applied to patients with ineffective airway clearance issues to improve oxygenation status in children.
