Abstract

Backround : The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in 2021 Indonesia ranked 5th in the world. Long-term diabetes mellitus treatment requires the patient's awareness of the importance of self-care management for diabetes mellitus, where self-care is influenced by physical factors, or psychological factors. One of the psychological factors in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus is psychological well-being. People with diabetes mellitus who have low psychological well-being can have an impact on low levels of self-care which results in an increase in complications. Purpose : To find out the description of self-care and psychological well-being in diabetes mellitus patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method : This type of research is quantitative descriptive. This research instrument uses Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) with a cronbach' alpha number of 0.855 and Ryff's Psychological Well-Being (RPWB) with a cronbach' alpha number of 0.914. Taken by accidental sampling as many as 135 respondents. Data is processed using SPSS and analyzed using uivariate test Result : Obtained a good self-care rate of 123 respondents (91,1%) and a medium psychological well-being level of 50 respondents (37,0%). Conclusion : The majority of diabetes mellitus patients have good self-care and the majority of diabetic patients have moderate psychological well-being. Recommendation: This research is for hospitals to pay more attention to psychological well-being so that patients can carry out good self-care to reduce complications in diabetes mellitus patients.
