Abstract

Background: Aging is the final phase of human growth characterized by the individual's inability to maintain balance, physiological stress levels, and overall health. A common problem that arises in the elderly is falls. Balance training is one of the treatments carried out for elderly people who are at risk of falling. Balance exercises aim to improve body balance, muscle strength in the lower limbs, and improve the vestibular system. Several types of balance exercises that can be done include the OTAGO Exercise which is cost-effective. Objective: Describe the results of nursing care for the elderly using the Otago Exercise to reduce the risk of falls. Method: The method of this scientific work is a escriptive case study method by taking 5 sample of elderly people who where given nursing care by implementing the OTAGO Exercise to reduce the risk of falls, the application was carried out 3 times a week over a period of 2 weeks for 30 minutes. Results: Based on the results of an assessment of 5 elderly people, the main nursing problem was the risk of falls (D.0143). After carrying out the nursing action of implementing OTAGO Exercisse for 6 meetings, the results showed an increase in the score on balance ability with the Berg Balance Scale which was related to a decrease in the risk range for falls seen from increased Ambulation (L.05038) and Balance (L.05039). Recommendation: The results of this research can be used as reference and reference material for further research and can be applied as an intervention for elderly people at risk of falling.
