Abstract
Background: Pneumonia is an acute respiratory infection caused by viruses or bacteria. One of the factors in preventing pneumonia is knowledge, where increasing knowledge can be achieved throught health education. The higher the level of knowledge, better the prevention of pneumonia. Objective: To determine the effect of health education on increasing parents knowledge about pneumonia. Methods: This research used a quasi-experimental method with a one group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 60 respondents selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution and the Wilcoxon test. Results: The majority of parents knowledge levels before receiving health education were in the low category, and after receiving health education their knowledge levels were in the good category. Parents who received health edication about pneumonia showed a significant increase in knowledge, with knowledge scores increasing from 5,08 to 13,09 a mean increase of 8,01 and p-value of 0,000 (< 0,05). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that health education has an effect on increasing parents knowledge about pneumonia in the working area of Nusawungu 1 public health center. Recommendation: It is recommended to improve the knowledge of parents who still have poor understanding by providing more effective education about pneumonia in children.
