Abstract

Background: Self-harm refers to actions where an individual deliberately injures or harms their own body in various ways, regardless of whether there is an intention or desire to commit suicide. Adolescents are unique individuals who must go through various stages of development, including physical, psychological, and mental health aspects. One of the efforts to reduce the incidence of self-harm among adolescents is by increasing their knowledge about self-harm within this age group. Objective: To descriptively analyze the knowledge and experiences of self-harm among adolescents at SMK Tamtama Karanganyar. Method: This study employs a quantitative observational research design using a descriptive analytic method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consists of 302 respondents selected through proportional random sampling. Data collection was conducted at SMK Tamtama Karanganyar using a questionnaire assessing adolescents' knowledge about self-harm. Data analysis was carried out using univariate analysis. Results: The majority of respondents were female, totaling 167 (55.3%). The most common age group was 16 years old, with 118 respondents (39.1%). The majority of respondents were in the 10th grade, with 114 respondents (37.7%). Regarding religion, 301 respondents (99.7%) identified as Muslim. The knowledge category showed that 163 respondents (54.0%) had good knowledge, 99 respondents (32.8%) had moderate knowledge, and 40 respondents (13.2%) had low knowledge. Most respondents (240 or 79.5%) had never engaged in self-harm, while 62 respondents (20.5%) had previous selfharm experiences. Conclusion: The majority of adolescents at SMK Tamtama Karanganyar have good knowledge about self-harm, and most have no experience engaging in self-harm. Recommendation: Future researchers are encouraged to analyze factors related to adolescents' knowledge levels about self-harm. Schools are also advised to develop educational programs on self-harm prevention.
