Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a condition in which systolic blood pressure exceeds 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure exceeds 90 mmHg. Hypertension cannot be cured but can be controlled to prevent complications and reduce the risk of death. Blood pressure control can be achieved through adherence to antihypertensive medication. However, maintaining medication adherence is not easy and requires strong motivation to remain consistent in taking medication. Objective: To describe the motivation and adherence levels of hypertension patients in taking antihypertensive medication at Gombong II Community Health Center. Method: This study used a quantitative descriptive method with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 145 hypertension patients at Gombong II Community Health Center, selected using the convenience sampling technique. Results: The study found that 88 respondents (60.7%) had low motivation, while 57 respondents (39%) had high motivation. Additionally, 87 respondents (60%) had low adherence to medication, while 58 respondents (40%) had high adherence. Conclusion: The majority of hypertension patients at Gombong II Community Health Center have low motivation and low adherence to antihypertensive medication. Recommendation: Future researchers are encouraged to include additional variables and expand the scope of the study.
