Abstract
Background: In 2014 there were 84 infants having neonatorum Tetanus found in 15 provinces of Indonesia. There were 15 infants having neonatorum because of umbilical cord care using alcohol or iodine, 32 infants because of traditional care. And there were 26 infants because of other kinds of care. There were 7 infants having neonatorum tetanus because of unknown umbilical cord care. Umbilical cord can be the entrance for infections to the infant’s body. It needs, therefore, a right care for umbilical cord to avoid infection, such as neonatorum tetanus. This can be prevented by applying topical breast milk using open technique. Objectives: To know the application of topical breast milk using open technique towards the separation time and quality of the umbilical cord. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with case study approach. The writer describes the facts of the assessment obtained from interviews and direct observation. This case study was conducted on April 11, 2017 until April 29, 2017. Result: The average of umbilical cord separation time is 3 days 6 hours and nobody has an umbilical cord infection. Conclusion: The appliation of topical breast milk using open technique is efective to accelerate the umbilical cord separation.
