Abstract
Background: Bronchopneumonia is one of the causes of mortality of children under five years old in the world. Management of bronchopneumonia of pediatric patients in hospital is pharmacological therapy. This is usually done by inhalation, i.e. by giving drugs directly to the respiratory tract through steam inhalation. Objective: To describe the application of inhalation therapy to reduce the symptoms of short of breath of a child with bronchopneumonia. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with case study approach. The subject was a child being hospitalized with a medical diagnosis of bronchopneumonia. Data was collected through interviews, observation, physical examination and documentation. Analysis and presentation of data were conducted by using narrative techniques and frequency distribution. Result: After having inhalation therapy, the audible respiratory sound in wet ronchi became vesicular, the rapid breathing over 50 x/minute became 30-50 x/minute, no nostrils breathing, and no chest wall pulling inside. Discussion: Inhalation therapy by consuming combivent drugs can widen the bronchial respiratory tract. Therefore no more complaints, such as short of breath and no sound when breathing. Conclusion: Inhalation therapy can decrease short of breath of a client with bronchopneumonia. Keywords: Bronchopneumonia, short of breath, inhalation therapy
