Abstract

Background: The wound of diabetes is easy to get infections. Unless treated immediately, it will eventually make the wound more severe. The only effort to prevent the virus from infecting and spreading to other limbs is by amputation. Consequently, the infected part of the body will be lost, and so will the limbs. Objective: Providing nursing care for diabetes mellitus patients with infection risk by applying the procedure of wound care using honey. Method: This scientific paper is an analytical descriptive with a case study approach. Data were collected from interview, direct observation, and physical examination. The subject was a diabetes mellitus patient with infection risk. Discussion: The arising nursing problems are the risk of infection, the skin integrity damage, ineffectiveness of health care. Intervention: Implementation had been done in the form of wound treatment by applying honey, examining the wound conditions, and teaching diabeteic foot exercise. Evaluation: After the nursing care had been conducted for five days, there was a decrease of design scale from score 9 to be 6. This showed the wound was in good condition, no severity of wound, cuts condition was reddish, and the wound was clean. Keywords: Infection risk, nursing care, wound care
