Abstract
Background: Growth is said to be too late if a child does not reach the expected growth and development stage at the appropriate age, with a delay in a normal population. The delay in a mental retardation child affects his ability in health care. To reduce dependency on hygiene and health care, family support is needed to establish children independence in personal hygiene. Objective: To know the correlation of family support in training and skills of hand wash and brushing teeth on mental retardation children in SLB Putra Manunggal Gombong Method: This research uses correlational method with cross sectional approach. The samples are 120 respondents consisting of 60 children with mental retardation and 60 respondents of their parents taken by purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and by hypothesis test using chi square non-parametic test. Result: This study results in the findings that most respondents (78.3%) have good family support, and some of them (61.7%) have fairly skills of hand wash and brushing teeth. Family support is p= 0.00 (p <0.05) of hand wash and brushing teeth is p= 0.00 (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is no correlation of family support in training and skills of hand wash and brushing teeth of mental retardation children in SLB Putra Manunggal Gombong. This is because chi square test states that distribution data is normal if p value> 0.05
