Abstract
Background: The smooth expenditure of breast milk production is very important to meet the infant’s need. Breast milk is beneficial to maintain the baby’s body resistance because it contains anti-infective substances. Post SC patient may have problem easily with the smooth expenditure of breast milk. This is due to the various factors obstructing lactation hormone release. Oxytocin massage and breast care are interventions for stimulating lactation hormone release. Objective: To know the effectiveness between oxytocin massage and breast care to accelerate the smooth expenditure of breast milk of post SC mother in Bougenvil ward of dr. Soedirman hospital of Kebumen. Method: This study is Quasy experiment with pre and post test without control approach. The samples are 38 respondents taken by using purposive sampling technique. Result: The study yields in the findings that after applying oxytocin massage, the smooth expenditure of breast milk of post SC mothers – pre test 7 respondents (36,8%), post test 19 respondents (100%). Meanwhile after applying breast care, pre test 6 respondents (31.6%) and post test 19 respondents (100%). Oxytocin massage value (p sign = 0,001) and breast care value (p sign = 0,000), Conclusion: Breast care is more effective than oxytocin massage in accelerating the breast milk production of post SC mother Recommendations: Health workers and lactating mothers are expected to apply both interventions to maximize the smooth expenditure of breast milk.
