Abstract
Background: The process of extra-uterine adaptation performed by low birth weight infants (LBWI) will work harder than normal birth babies. This is because the immaturity of organ function and lack of body fat tissue that may cause physiological changes. These physiological changes affect physiological parameters (axillary temperature, heart rate and respiration) causing hypothermic problems. Nesting innovation needs to be performed to minimize the baby’s movement, provide the best position for the baby as in the mother’s womb condition and provide comfort. Thus, increased comfort of neonates will affect the stability of physiological parameters. Objective: To analyze nursing care with nesting innovation on the fulfillment of the basic need of comfort on low birth weight infants (LBWI) in Melati Room of RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. Result of Analysis: Nursing problem taken by the researcher is discomfort and hypothermia. After nursing intervention with nesting innovation in LBW patients and observation for 3x24 hours were performed in Melati Room of RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto, it was obtained effective nesting administration to enhance the comfort characterized by the stability of physiological parameters (axillary temperature, heart rate, respiration). Recommendation: Effective nesting was administered to neonates who experienced discomfort and hypothermia with LBWI because it can provide comfort, regulate flexion position to maintain body normality, and support early regulation, so that nesting can be used as one of nursing intervention in handling LBWI.
