Abstract
Background: Pain is normal happening that can not be separated from labor process. About 80% up to 90% mothers feel severe pain during their labor process. This is due to the cervix dilatation and the going down of the baby. Labor pain may cause stress that gives impact to the release of excessive hormones, such as katekolamin and steroids. It can be handled by pharmacology or nonpharmacology treatment, such as massage therapy. Therefore, the writer is interested in applying abdominal lifthing massage to reduce labor pain in stage 1 of active phase. Objective: This study aims at applying massage therapy using abdominal lifthing technique to reduce labor pain in stage 1 of active phase and also aims at knowing pain scale before and after the intervention by using numerical pain scale. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with a case study. Data were obtained through interview, observation, and documentation. This study involves five participants. Result: After having application of massage therapy using abdominal lifthing technique, there was a decrease in labor pain in stage 1 of active phase, i.e. from heavy pain into medium pain.
