Abstract

Background: The mortality rate due to cancer in Indonesia is 17 persons per 100,000 persons. The treatment, however, is still not optimal because almost 70% of new cases are found in stage four. Therefore, the writer is interested in conducting health education about breast self-examination by using video and by demonstrating to women of childbearing age. Objective: To know the application of health education for women of childbearing age about breast self-examination by using video and by demonstrating. Method: This study is a qualitative descriptive with a case-study approach. Data were obtained from interview and observation. The participants were 5 women in the age of childbearing. The instruments used were in form consent, pre and post tests. Result: After having health education about breast self-examination, there was an increase in the knowledge level of women of childbearing age: from score 60 became 90 (participant 1), score 50 became 80 (participant 2), score 50 became 90 (participant 3). Conclusion: Health education using video media and demonstration method can help women of childbearing age improve their knowledge about self-examination.
