Abstract

Background: Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is defined as a sustained abnormal increase in arterial blood pressure over time. According to WHO, blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg is classified as hypertension. WHO reported that 1.28 billion people aged 30-79 years suffered from hypertension at that time. Objective: To investigate the relationship between knowledge level and lifestyle on the incidence of hypertension among elderly participants at Posyandu in Ngabean Village, Mirit District, Kebumen Regency. Method: The study used a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational design employing a cross-sectional approach. The population in the study was 237 individuals with a sample of 75 respondents selected through random sampling. The instrument used in the study was a questionnaire. Results: The correlation results showed a relationship between the level of knowledge and the incidence of hypertension with a p-value of 0.000. There was also a relationship between lifestyle and hypertension with a p-value of 0.003. Conclusion : There is a relationship between the level of knowledge and lifestyle to the incidence of hypertension in Ngabean Village, Mirit District, Kebumen Regency. Recommendation: This study only involved 75 respondents, it is hoped that further research can involve more respondents and conduct experimental research.
