Abstract

Background: The puerperium begins after the birth of the placenta and ends when the reproductive organs return to their normal state. Perineal wounds are injuries that occur in the perineal area. In the world 50-60% of mothers who give birth vaginally will experience perineal suture wounds. In 2017 in Indonesia 60% of mothers experienced perineal sutures during childbirth, of which 30% were episiotomies, and 35% were vaginal sutures caused by natural birth due to perineal tears. In handling it, namely with a cold compress that can relieve pain and reduce the activity of muscle nerve endings and aromatherapy which can release endorphin hormones to relieve pain and emotional imbalance. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of cold compresses and lavender aromatherapy to reduce perineal wound pain. Methods: This research was conducted with a case study approach design to find the truth. Type of quantitative research. The facts of this study were obtained through interviews, observation and documentation. Respondents of this study were 3 postpartum women with spontaneous labor without a history of complications according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The results of the application showed that before the application of cold compresses and lavender aromatherapy all respondents (100%) experienced moderate pain. After applying cold compresses and lavender aromatherapy, 2 respondents (66.7%) experienced moderate pain and 1 respondent (33.3%) experienced mild pain, so that all respondents 100% experienced a decrease in pain. Conclusion: The application of cold compresses and lavender aromatherapy effectively reduces perineal wound pain.
