Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a growing global chronic disease that requires long-term self-management. Self-efficacy the individual's belief in their ability to perform health behaviors is a crucial factor in managing the disease and is believed to significantly contribute to patients’ quality of life across physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. Objective: To examine the effect of self efficacy on the quality of life of T2DM outpatients at Permata Medika Hospital, Kebumen. Methods: This study employed a quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 100 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Instruments used were the Diabetes Management Self Efficacy Scale (DMSES) and the Diabetes Quality of Life Clinical Trial Questionnaire (DQLCTQ). Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation. Results: Most respondents had moderate (49%) to high (49%) levels of self efficacy. The highest confidence was found in the medical care domain, followed by blood sugar monitoring, nutrition, and physical activity. Overall, patients reported good quality of life, although the energy and treatment effect domains were perceived less positively. A significant relationship was found between self-efficacy and quality of life in the symptom frequency domain (p = 0.041; r = 0.205). Conclusion: Overall, self efficacy levels were moderate to high and showed a positive relationship with the quality of life in type 2 diabetes patients, particularly in reducing disease symptoms. Enhancing self-efficacy through education, family support, and a supportive environment can serve as a key strategy to improve patients' quality of life.
