Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnant women remains a global health problem that increases the risk of pregnancy complications and affects fetal well-being. One of the effects of anemia is a change in fetal heart rate (FHR) due to intrauterine hypoxia. FHR serves as an important indicator for assessing fetal condition, where tachycardia may appear as a compensatory response to decreased oxygenation. Objective: To determine the relationship between anemia in pregnant women and fetal heart rate at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a quantitative analytic approach. The sample consisted of 76 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria and were selected using a total sampling technique. Data on hemoglobin levels and FHR were obtained from medical records and clinical examinations. Data analysis was performed using Chi Square correlation test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: Most respondents experienced moderate anemia (75%), and most fetuses had normal FHR (93.4%). The Chi Square test showed a strong and significant relationship between maternal hemoglobin levels and fetal heart rate p = 0.000. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between anemia in pregnant women and fetal heart rate at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Recommendation: Future researchers are advised to include variables such as nutritional status, gestational age, obstetric history, and compliance with iron tablet consumption that may influence hemoglobin levels and fetal heart rate.
