Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a condition where blood pressure exceeds the normal limit, namely above 140/90 mmHg. A crucial factor in controlling hypertension is the level of knowledge of the elderly, especially regarding appropriate dietary patterns. According to (WHO, 2023), there are 1.28 billion cases of hypertension in the 30-79 year old population. According to (Kemenkes, 2024) the prevalence of hypertension in the 65-74 year old population, with a figure reaching 57.6% in the Adimulyo Community Health Center Working Area, as many as 2,054 people and at the Posyandu lansia (Integrated Health Post) in Arjosari and Sidomukti Villages, as many as 60 elderly people suffer from hypertension. Research Purpose: Understanding the correlation between Elderly's Knowledge of Hypertension and Efforts to Control the Elderly's Diet at the Adimulyo Community Health Center. Research Result: It was found that 22 respondents (36.7%) had good knowledge, 38 respondents (63.3%) had moderate knowledge, and none had poor knowledge. 16 respondents (26.7%) had a good diet, 30 respondents (50.0%) had a sufficient diet, and 14 respondents (23.3%) had a poor diet. The results of the study using the Spearman Rank Correlation test obtained a p-value of 0.041, which means it is smaller than the value of α = 0.05 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between the level of knowledge of the elderly regarding hypertension and efforts to control dietary patterns in the Adimulyo Community Health Center Work Area. Recommendation: This research is expected to strengthen health education on hypertension, particularly in managing the elderly's dietary habits through Posyandu (Integrated Health Post) activities. Future researchers are advised to add other variables that could potentially influence hypertension control, such as family support and education level, to provide more comprehensive results.
