Abstract

Background : Diabetic ulcers are a complication of diabetes mellitus, susceptible to infection, particularly by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Irrational use of antibiotics can lead to side effects and resistance. Therefore, the development of natural ingredients as alternative therapies is necessary. Ganitri (Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb) leaves are known to possess antibacterial activity, but their conventional use has limited bioavailability. Self-Nano Emulsifying Drug Delivery System (SNEDDS) technology can increase the effectiveness of active ingredient delivery. Purpose : Mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri SNEDDS ekstrak ganitri terhadap bakteri To evaluate the antibacterial activity of SNEDDS (Self-Nano Emulsifying Drug Delivery System) formulated from Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb. extract against Staphylococcus aureus and to determine the most effective concentration in inhibiting its growth. Method : This study is a laboratory-based experimental research using the well diffusion method to assess the antibacterial activity of SNEDDS containing Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb. extract against Staphylococcus aureus. The inhibition zone diameters were analyzed statistically using One-Way ANOVA followed by a Post Hoc test. Results : The test results showed that the higher the concentration of the extract, the larger the inhibition zone formed against Staphylococcus aureus. The average diameters of the inhibition zones produced were F1 = 8.70 mm, F2 = 9.56 mm, F3 = 11.93 mm, and F4 = 12.50 mm, respectively. Based on statistical analysis, there were significant differences between the formulas (p < 0.05). The highest antibacterial activity was obtained with formula F4 (0.2%) with a strong inhibition category. Conclusion : SNEDDS of ganitri leaf extract demonstrated antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with effectiveness increasing with higher extract concentrations. Formula F4 (0.2%) was the most effective formula with an inhibition zone of 12.50 mm. SNEDDS can enhance the stability and bioavailability of its active compounds, making it potentially suitable for development as a natural antibacterial preparation for the treatment of diabetic ulcers. Recommendation : It is recommended to evaluate in vivo activity
