Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a condition characterized by blood pressure levels rising above the normal range, which can lead to discomfort and even life-threatening complications. One non-pharmacological method to manage hypertension is lavender aromatherapy, which aims to lower blood pressure in individuals with hypertension. Objective: To analyze nursing care for hypertension patients through the application of lavender aromatherapy in the Al Maun ward of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Sruweng. Method: This study utilized a descriptive research design with a case study approach. The sample included five patients. Tools used in this case study were the nursing care format, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for lavender aromatherapy, and a blood pressure assessment format conducted before and after the intervention. The case study spanned three sessions. Data were analyzed using frequency and percentage tables. Results: The findings indicated that all five patients shared the same issue—elevated blood pressure accompanied by dizziness. The identified nursing diagnoses included acute pain and disturbed sleep patterns. Interventions consisted of pain management and sleep support through non pharmacological relaxation therapy using lavender aromatherapy. After relaxation therapy with lavender aromatherapy, patients demonstrated a significant reduction in blood pressure, with an average decrease of 8.3 mmHg in systolic pressure and 7.1 mmHg in diastolic pressure. Additionally, their sleep patterns showed improvement. Recommendation: Lavender aromatherapy relaxation therapy is recommended as a complementary method to reduce blood pressure in hypertension patients.
