Abstract

Background: Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) are diseases that include infections of the upper respiratory tract, such as rhinitis, pharyngitis, otitis, as well as the lower respiratory tract, such as laryngitis, bronchitis, bronchiolitis, and pneumonia, with symptoms that can last up to 14 days. The prevalence of ARI in Indonesia is 25.0%. Rickshaw drivers have a high level of exposure to motor vehicle emissions, as they spend most of their working hours on the streets. Consequently, they are frequently exposed to pollution, which can have negative effects on health, particularly on the respiratory system. Objective: To understand the preventive behavior against ARI among rickshaw drivers in Gombong Market, Kebumen Regency. Method: This study employs a quantitative design with a descriptive method and a cross-sectional approach. The sample size consists of 46 respondents, with questionnaires used as the measurement tool. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistical tests. Results: From 46 respondents, the findings are as follows that 29 respondents (63%) exhibited good preventive behavior against ARI, 17 respondents (37%) exhibited poor preventive behavior against ARI, 22 respondents (47.8%) did not experience ARI, and 22 respondents (52.2%) experienced ARI. Conclusion: Preventive behavior against Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) among rickshaw drivers in Gombong Market, Kebumen Regency shows good results. Recommendation: Further research should be conducted in a broader area with a larger number of respondents. Studies on preventive behavior against ARI should be expanded to obtain more comprehensive data. This research can serve as a reference to enhance knowledge, particularly in the health sector, regarding ARI prevention behavior.
