Abstract

Appropriate use of medicines is important to provide effective and efficient therapy. The advantanges will be felt when given appropriate treatment and according as needs Irrational uses of drugs lead to side effect and incurring unnecessary costs. The study was conducted as an early stage for evaluate outpatient prescriptions in Rumah Sakit Umum Purbowangi. A retrospective survey was designed to the claim data selected using random sampling from January 2019 to December 2019. A total of 397 prescriptions were analyzed, and 1088 drugs were identified use pattern using WHO core prescribing indicators.The data obtained showed that the average number of drugs per encounter was 2.83, 80.5% of drugs were prescribed by generic name, 6.7 % of encounters resulted in the prescription of antibiotics, in 4.0% of encounters injections were prescribed and 96.0% of the drugs prescribed were from the formulary. The findings of this study revealed were not optimal with the standard values of WHO prescribing indicators. There was a higher tendency of drugs use encounter, lack of generic prescribing, low rate of prescriptions from formulary is the present prescribing
