Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that occurs when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin, which can lead to complications. International Diabetes Federation In 2019, there were 463 million people with diabetes mellitus aged 20-79 years worldwide. Efforts that can be made to reduce the incidence of complications in diabetes mellitus is to improve the quality of life. One of the factors that affect the quality of life is family support. Purpose: To identify the relationship between family support and quality of life. Method: This type of research is correlational with a cross sectional approach. The research instrument used a family support questionnaire and WHOQOLBREF(World Health Organization Quality of Life Biomedical Research and Education Facility). The research respondents were 60 people. Data were processed with SPSS-25 and analyzed with the Kendall Tau test. Result: The results showed that the family support of the respondents was mostly good, as many as 53 people (88.3%) and the quality of life of the respondents was mostly high, as many as 56 people (93.3%). Kendall Tau analysis test results with (a= 0.05) was obtainedp value= 0.000; r = 0.548 which indicates that there is a relationship between family support and quality of life. Conclusion: Family support can help people with diabetes mellitus improve their quality of life by providing instrumental, informational, appreciation, and emotional support. Recommendation: The researcher hopes that further researchers can develop this research with different methods such as qualitative to find out in depth the relationship between family support and quality of life.
