Abstract
Background : Labor is the process of uterine contraction leading to progressive effacement and dilatation of the cervix and birth of the baby followed by expulsion of the placenta and fetal membrane from the mother's body. Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension and worrying without clear causes. Endorphine massage technique in the form of touch and light massage is very important for pregnant women to help provide a sense of calm and comfort, both before and during labor. Objective : To determine the effect of endorphine massage on the decrease of anxiety level at first stage of labor atcommunity health center of Kemiri. Methods : The present study is quasy experiment research with pre-test and post-test approach, one group design. The samples were 32 respondent staken by accidental sampling technique. Data analysis were univariate and bivariate tested by using wilcoxon test. Results : The results showed that the number of maternity woman who were at the first stage prior to endorphine massage therapy experienced severe anxiety as many as 16 respondents (50%) and after being given the therapy they experienced moderate anxiety as many as 15 people (46.9%). The result of wilcoxon statistic test showed that Z = - 5.122 and ρ = 0.000 (p <0.05) meaning that giving endorphine massage at first stage of labor had significant effect on decreasing anxiety level at first stage of labor at community health center of Kemiri. Conclusion : There was significant effect on decreasing anxiety level at first stage of labor at community health center of Kemiri.
