Abstract

Background: Aging causes decrease of sensory perception in central nervous system and also decrease of motoric and proprioceptive responses. The central nervous system of elderly people undergo morphological and biochemical changes resulting in decrease of cognitive function. Deterioration due to the aging process would be prevented if all elderly organs are still active. Physical activity is one of good ways to do so. Objective: To determine correlation between physical activity and cognitive function of elderly women at elderly Posyandu in Kemukus, Gombong, Kebumen. Methods: This study used correlational method with cross sectional approach. The samples were 33 taken by total sampling. Data analysis using descriptive analysis and Kendal Thau test for bivariate correlation test. Results: Most respondents (63.6%) have high physical activity category. The majority of them (72.8%) have normal cognitive function category. Conclusion: There was significant correlation between physical activity and cognitive function of elderly women at elderly Posyandu in Kemukus, Gombong, Kebumen indicated by p value < α = 0.000 (<0.05).
