Abstract
Background: The globalization era developed as today makes a significant change in the behaviour society one of them students. This process was followed by the rapid development of technology such as gadgets. The development of gadgets in the recently looks more attractive with the many features or applications that support them. So that students will use gadgets excessively (dependency) which will have an impact on their psychosocial changes. Objective: Determining of psychosocial changes in students Muhammadiyah Health Science Institute of Gombong due to the use of gadgets. Method: This study used qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with a sample of five participants using gadgets. Research Results: Based on the research that has been done, it was found out of the five participants experienced changes in emotional intelligence, changes in social behaviour, financial changes, impacts on physical conditions, and changes in intelligence. Five participants had good and bad self control, five participants experienced a decrease in response to the environment, four participants experienced a change in behaviour, four participants experienced a change in consumptive behaviour, two participants experienced physical problems, five participants experienced a decrease in concentration, and two participants experienced a decrease in result Grade Point Average (GPA). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study there were five themes related to psychosocial changes, namely emotional intelligence, changes in social behavior, financial change, impact on physical conditions and intellectual change. Recommendations: Suggestions for further researchers are used coping mechanism variables and add data collection methods such as observation or FGD (forum group discussion) techniques.
